 GOLF

Golf has no doubt broken many a man stronger than Phillip.  This terrible game has both captivated and destroyed him.  It has made him feel like a man among men and a worm among worms.  It has built him up and beaten him down. It has made him feel mighty and made him feel small.  It has made him look good in the eyes of his contemporaries and then made those same eyes smirk contemptuously upon him.  One moment he is king of all he surveys, the next he is penniless, poverty-stricken and worthless.  Yes, this most annoying of all games is also the most challenging and rewarding.

It is the hardest sport he has ever played. Phillip's swing is reminicent of a man killing a snake with a stick.

Phillip has swaggered up to the 1st tee with crowds looking on and battered the ball smartly into the turf at his feet much to the glee of his son who laughs openly at his embarassment.  Out of sight, of course, on the 7th tee, he blasts the cover off the ball into the dead center of the fairway a wonderful 260+ yards away.  He turns awaiting approval but, alas, no one is there.

Yes, Phillip both loves and hates golf.

Chronicled here are some of those moments.
